6 Essential Home Office Design Tips

Your workspace is much more than a metal table with a steel chair, stuck to the corner of the room. Isn’t it? The place from where you have to earn or control the business should be a sheer reflection of the efforts and energy you want to put into your work.

After March 2020, with the strict need to stay at home, the concept of designing a Home office arises. The place where you have to spend hours throughout the day should be comfy and quiet so that it won’t bother your productivity. A carefully built Home office keeps you motivated and inspired in the long term.

Here are some helpful tips to design your Home office.

  1. Careful Selection of Location

Before designing the Home office, you should first look for the space in your home where you are most productive. Some people choose the crawlspace under the stairs to convert into an office, as this is the easiest and most cost-efficient way. But that spot is the noisiest spot of your home. You will be distracted by the footsteps and that will hinder your concentration.

Don’t opt for a room that shares a wall with your kids’ playroom. Similarly, a lounge will also not be a good option to set up your office. Your Home office should be in the quietest corner of your home, whether it is your basement or attic. Choose a place where traffic noises are minimum.

  1. Buy Yourself Ergonomic Furniture

Your office chair is your biggest companion during working hours. You are parked on your office chair for hours. An uncomfortable chair may lead you to muscle pain, stiffness, backache, and frequent headaches. Therefore, investing in a comfortable chair is a necessity.

The ergonomic furniture is not limited to a chair only. Your desk and the cupboard should also be ergonomic. The height of your table should be appropriate to keep your feet flat. Your arms and shoulder are relaxed, and your eyes are at level with the top of your computer screen. Your back is neither stiff nor bends if the table is of proper height.

  1. Set Up Table by the Window for View and Natural Light

Position your table towards the window or door. If you do not have a window, hang a pretty picture in front of you to stare at. An interesting object or decoration piece also works well if it gains your attention. Although, it is more ideal to set up your table by the window to stare outside for relaxing your eyes.

Looking on to the screen for a prolonged period might hurt your eyes. Natural light relaxes your body and reduces headaches. If you don’t have direct sunlight, you can always use layered lighting. Whenever you are comfortable with low light, you can switch to dimmers easily. Similarly, if you are having a meeting at night, you can turn on bright lights.

  1. Efficient Tech Storage

A messy workplace makes your mind a mess too. You can never manage your task efficiently if you can’t manage your workplace. It becomes a separate task to find something before doing your actual task.

So, you can’t change your tech equipment to settle your workplace. But you can manage hanging cords, and wires on the floor. Use fabric cord covers, metal caps for cords, and a wire organizer to lift the wires off the floor.

Place your gadgets near you so that it becomes easy for you to reach out. Organize them on a multi-layered desktop. It’s a better idea to use stacked shelves for printer, Wi-Fi router, and scanner. If you are an organized person, you can leave the shelves uncovered to reflect your personality.

  1. Paint Wall with Colors That Promote Positive Energy

Forget the white and beige walls of your office. It’s your own designed office so bring in some colors that inspire you and lift up your mood. For some people, bright colors work well such as orange, parrot green. While some people like calming shades like sea green, blue, botanical green. Find out which color you like and paint the walls of your office with it.

Every color has its own energy. If you can’t figure out which color works best for you, you can choose colors that are abundantly found in nature. Put some green indoor plants in your office. Use sky blue or deep blue shades on different walls to refresh your mind.

  1. Keep It Neat and Clutter-Free

As it is your own space, so you can easily keep it neat. There is no coworker with you to claim about the mess or unmanaged documents pile. So, you need to manage it on your own. Open files, messy documents, coffee mugs, and glasses will divert your attention from your work. Always take out time to clean up the clutter after compiling your daily task.
