Easy Embossing Project Ideas To Decorate Your Home

If you're looking for an easy way to revamp your home for the holidays (without anything involving a ladder), check out 2021's new trend: embossing. Embossing traditionally refers to impressing patterns onto paper goods, revealing a decorative relief. But today, embossing goes so much further. It's possible to emboss anything from a chic wall print to glass and even fabric!

Rustic Leather Wall Hanging in Two Steps

There are two types of embossing techniques: pressure based and heat based. Pressure based embossing works best for malleable materials, such as paper, wood, or metal. Using a stamp and a little pressure, you can easily imprint any design onto these kinds of materials. One great project idea that's taking the DIY world by storm right now is leather work. Most big name craft stores carry rolls or swatches of genuine and faux leather for actually quite cheap. Can't find the perfect stamp? Try investing in an alphabet set. Stamp words like "home," "gather," or "merry" for a minimalistic wall hanging that's still seasonal without the mainstream colors.

Monogram Vase Using Heat Embossing

Embossing opens up crafters to a world of possibilities. With a data embossing machine, it's possible to create professional looking designs on glass, metal, and more. This monogram vase project has a boutique look with a dollar store price tag. To emboss on glass, crafters use a special powder that binds to the surface under heat. The heat will also melt the powder to reveal a glossy, smooth surface. This makes the design indistinguishable from the glass, as if it were embossed with a stamp like paper.

Using a stencil, paint any monogram letter or saying desired using embossing glue. Then, sprinkle the embossing powder over the glue and gently dust away any excess. To cure the design, use any heat gun to pass over the design (be sure to follow the powder's specific instructions). The relief will be instantly cured and ready to display. Try arranging the vase on a charger plate with smaller sized candles or succulents. For a festive touch, fill the vase with pine cones, ornaments, or other seasonal filler.

Mirrored Charger with Stunning Lace Imprint

Metal is an overlooked medium when it comes to embossing. That's a shame, because embossing on metal means that common decor items like mirrors and appliances can be customized for a fresh, new look. The lace mirrored charger DIY sounds intimidating, but is actually easy as it is breathtaking. For this project, take any piece of craft metal that's thin and malleable enough to be imprinted on. One of the most popular embossing stamp themes is lace, and it should be easy to find at any craft store (or as a SVG for machines). Gently press the designs into the metal. Press them all over, or just the corners for a little flair.

On a side note, it's also possible to come up with a freehand design using a handheld embosser tool. Trace a design using a permanent marker and etch over it. Be careful to avoid bending the metal too much or creating an uneven surface, as this will reduce the quality of the project later. Once satisfied with the relief, coat the metal using metallic chrome spray paint, creating a mirror finish. There are also spray paints with copper, bronze, or gold finishes. The result is a unique mirror with intricate detailing that only looks expensive, perfect for use as a charger, tray, or setting.

Luxury Looks Without the Price Tag

It's easy to feel pressed when looking for trendy decor for a space. Instead of investing in expensive new pieces, try looking for materials around the house that can be totally transformed with just a little embossing magic. This way, old pieces can be recycled while the existing space can stay on trend. It's great for the environment and the wallet, too. It's no wonder that embossing is projected to be one of the top trends of 2022!
