7 Things to Do When Living in Indianapolis

Living in Indianapolis isn't quite like visiting the city on vacation. Of course, there are plenty of touristy things to do in Indianapolis, but what will really keep you entertained when you move to Indianapolis are the hidden gems that will pique your interest and inspire you to return again and again, so that no weekend in Indianapolis will be boring. Check out some of the best things to do in Indianapolis, and feel free to start a list of your own as well!

1. White River State Park - Don't be confused by its name, the White River State Park isn't your average state park. It houses the Indianapolis Zoo, multiple museums and the NCAA Hall of Champions. But once you've gotten over the obvious attractions, you can enjoy an ample array of green spaces, hiking and biking trails, recreation areas, a waterfront view and historic structures and monuments. When the weather is good, White River State Park is a great place to spend an afternoon - or an entire day.
2. Check out a comedy club - The Madame Walker Theater hosts 'Laughin' on the Avenue' the last Tuesday of each month, and tickets are only $10 in advance. The city also has several other comedy clubs that are worth a visit including Crackers Comedy Club and ComedySportz Arena.
3. Test out the local restaurants - Most people are familiar with the city's most famous eateries such as Le Peep and St. Elmo Steakhouse, but if you're living in Indianapolis, you deserve to get acquainted with the local flavors, including Acapulco Joe's Mexican Food, Maggiano's Little Italy and The Taste of Tango.
4. Visit Oldsfield-Lilly House and Garden - If you're into architecture, beautiful gardens and imagining a more luxurious lifestyle, this is definitely the place for you to hang out.
5. Children's Museum of Indianapolis - Not all children's museums are created equal, but if you move to Indianapolis, this attraction should definitely be at the top of your list (if you have children, of course). The museum has an impressive dinosaur exhibit, climbing activities and multiple exploration centers for children with all interests. The price for children is $10.50 and adults cost $15.50. There are also several free days throughout the year. There's no question that this museum is one of the most fun things to do in Indianapolis (for children and adults!).
6. Visit the Indiana State Fair - At $8 per adult and kids under 5 admitted for free, this is a great summertime activity for the whole family. The fair runs for 2 weeks from 8am onwards - since you'll be living in Indianapolis, you'll be on your own schedule, and can easily find a convenient time to drop by.
7. Swing by the Garfield Park Conservatory - Not only does the Conservatory have beautiful gardens, it has interesting events year-round. If you're a garden enthusiast (or just a beer lover), you can find what you're looking for in the Conservatory's diverse offerings. General admission is free, though some events do cost money. There are many great things to see at the Conservatory, and you definitely won't beat that price anywhere else in Indianapolis.
