  4. Houston houses over 5,000 energy-related companies, and is largely considered to be the "energy capital" of the world.
  5. Houston is the home to NASA's Johnson Space Center, where astronauts regularly lift off for space.
  6. For this reason, "Houston" was the first word recorded as being uttered on the moon in July of 1969
  7. The cost of living in Houston is approximately 14% lower than the national average cost of living
  8. The average price for a home in Houston is about $115,000.
  9. The approximate unemployment rate in Houston is 6%, which is well below the national average.

  2. Houston is notorious for its high crime rate which rose dramatically following the influx of refugees from Hurricane Katrina. Local police are continually striving to improve the safety of the city and to protect the city's residents from violent crimes.
  3. Houston's public transportation system does not yet connect the city to its suburbs, which results in a high number of people driving to work. (You may want to consider this when moving to Houston).
