Traveling Around Athens
If your move includes a flight, you could try the relatively small Athens-Ben Epps Airport east of downtown, which has limited regional service. Many people prefer to drive to Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport instead. As for driving to and from the area, Georgia State Route 10 loops around Athens, while U.S. Highways 29, 78 and 129, plus Georgia 72, 316 and 441 all pass through the city at various points. Downtown has several major arteries coming out of it like asterisk: Lumpkin and Oconee Streets, plus Prince and North Avenues. Atlanta Highway bisects the city running east and west, while Milledge Avenue does the same going north and south.
